Cross-posting conundrums
Aug. 2nd, 2011 09:37 amI have my wordpress site, livejournal, dreamwidth, facebook and now google+. Used to have twitter, but that one has been abandoned.
I like my wordpress site (tempestteapot.net) because it's mine. I'm not dependent on any other company to keep up with my stuff. It's kind of like my quiet spot and my archive in case of disaster from all the rest. I don't feel bad cross-posting from this to LJ because I don't think that anyone really is checking out the site itself probably because I don't do anything to drive traffic there.
I don't want to bail on LJ because I've been on it for years and there are people here that I've not found in the other places. I also use LJ for venting about personal things that I don't want to keep on my home journal. Once I'm done being made about it, I don't really need or want it to come back up. Plus with LJ I can keep it safely under lock and key.
Dreamwidth seems like the up-and-coming option to LJ when it finally dies, but I've only got a few friends and communities there. I just can't seem to get into the swing of it. It doesn't help that Wordpress doesn't have an efficient cross-posting widget for this yet.
I bailed on twitter because it seemed like just way to much and I was posting exactly the same thing to exactly the same people as on facebook/lj.
I mostly keep facebook for my family, though there are some friends here and there. I like this for my one sentence observations that don't exactly need a full post.
Google+ kind of scares me, but seems like a nice division between facebook for family and google+ for my friends. I know you can separate them out in both places, but I like my boxes organized and tidy.
I feel like I have too many boxes!
I apologize to my friends that are on all of them while I'm trying to deal with the embarrassment of riches (options). I've been cross-posting to everything and feel like my signal to noise ratio is really high.
